Magnificent Mind Airs Nationwide and Hits Bookstores

Our new public television show Magnificent Mind At Any Age (MM AAA) started over the weekend.  The new book MM AAA was released today.  It has caused quite a buzz and has been very successful so far raising money for PBS stations.

I had two encounters over the weekend that highlights how important this work is.

1. I was at San Diego’s Wild Animal Park on Saturday with my wife and daughter on the way to my live appearance at the PBS station KPBS on the campus of San Diego State.  A young Indian mother recognized me from our PBS show Change Your Brain, Change Your Life.  She said, “You are the one!”  I stood there silent, not knowing exactly what she meant and she repeated, “You are the one on TV, the brain doctor.  After we see your show we are good for a few days, then you come on again to remind us what to do.  It is so helpful.”

2. On Sunday I was again with my wife and daughter, walking our bulldog Frasier on Balboa Island, getting in some last minute family time and exercise before leaving today on the two week PBS tour and another woman stopped me and said, “You are the brain doctor!  I have to get your book.  My husband and I are out here walking because of you.  My husband wouldn’t listen to me, but he listened to you.”

The work we do at the Amen Clinics is very important and has the potential to change many lives and even potentially our society as a whole.  I hope you get a chance to see the show and read the book.  My belief is that your life will be better.

To your brain health,

Daniel

My son has suffered serious anxiety and depression. He has had it all his life but this last yer was very scary. We did not know what to d for our son. We are very alternative when it comes to health and although we got him eating very healthy he was still very down. After reading your books I decided to bring him to your Newport clinic. I was very hopeful but still felt unsure. Its been a monthand a half since we have finish our visit with your clinic and I have to say it was soooo worth the time money and emotional energy it took. I have my happy, funny son back. He actually hugs me and his mom all the time. He said to me ” dad thanks for taking me to that clinic. I don’t ever want to feel like that again”. We have educated my son on how to deal with his emotions and imbalances for the rest of his life. Not to just deal with it and get by but to overcome it and be happy emotionally. Dr Amen, Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Thank you Dr. Amen. Your books have been a great help to me. It is good to know that depression is a biological thing and not just a bad attitude.

Where can we find information about local listings of your PBS shows? Is there a place on this site that lists them? Thanks. I’m reading Healing Anxiety and Depression, and have Change Your Brain, Change Your Life as my next reading.

Today we contacted my daughter’s insurance plan to check coverage of treatment at the Amen Clinic in Fairfield CA. We were told the treatment is “experimental” and not covered. How do we convince them that this is well-documented work of psychiatry and it is well beyond “experimental.” My adult daughter suffers from deep depression and daily migraines and she feels her case is hopeless. We believe your clinic is the miracle we have been praying for. Can you suggest what we should do? Many thanks for all your research insights.

I suffer from a “cerebral allergy,” and get debilitating headaches (among other symptoms) when exposed to certain environmental chemicals, most notably, petroleum products. Can you recommend any treatments? This problems has severely restricted my life. For instance, in every car I have owned, I have eventually been unable to drive it due to this allergy and am reliant on public transportation. After reading “Change Your Brain, Change Your Life,” I began to feel there might be treatment possible. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Dear Dr. Amen. I want to tell you how much you and your work has ment to me and my family. I have Bipolar (severe). I was in such a depressed state for a very long time. I could not even get out of bed for days. I heard something about your work and decided to go to your Va. clinic ( I live in TN). I saw one of your caring Drs. and was put o the proper medications. That was 3 years and 2 months ago.I wish so much that your methods of treating depression and other brain problems were used by all physicians.

I, too, whould like to know how you responded to Michele’s email. I find many ADHDs have such allergies, including myself. I’ve also read your cited book (and recommended it to many of my school psychologist colleagues, bought it for my husband and kids, and recommended it to parents).

I have a son that is allowing crystal meth and cocain to ruin his brain. He is not telling me where he lives, and I do not have his phone number, however, thank God I do e-mail him. I don’t know if he reads the e-mails, but I do it anyways several times a week. I try to encouage him to do what is right especially since he has a little boy just 7 years old that he abuses. Dr. Amen, what can I do to get him to tell me where he is living so I can find out how the little guy is doing, and how can I get him to seek help? He means the world to me. He is 31 years old and has been doing drugs since his late teen years, through his twenties and now starting his thirties. I know the drugs have eaten up his brain especially the meth. Last year he approached an undercover officier in Las Vegas where he was living at the time, and they told him he could go to prison or a rehab. He called me to come after his son, and the police did nothing to him. I called the police and talked with the right department and they told me there was nothing they could do for him approaching them. They said it would be like locking up all the alcoholics in the city. I feel he is so far gone that he can not think straight on how to reer up his son, or to even go for help. He moves around with his son, so the schools will not know about the abuse. His little guy does without Christmas presents, clothes, food, adaquate housing, and of course no contact with any family members. He has not seen his mother since he was two, and she was just as bad. I feel he is left along, and once the little guy showed me handcuffs his dad had purchased to handcuff him to a chair while his dad would leave the house. Of course, I have reported this to the DCS and they did not believe me nor the little guy. Please help me find answers to what I can do. I live in Florida and the last known address for him was Las Vegas, NV. He lost his SUV, and job in the spring of the year. I don’t know if he is back at work or not. HELP ME WITH SOME ANSWERS. Cheryle PS I watched your show on PBS. Thank God for shows like that one.

My daughter continues to slog through bipolar depression, with sudden unpredictable manic phases. Thankfully she is in her fourth manic phase this year (none in 2008).
Could you please open 2 clinics in the Tri-State area soon?
