Joseph A. Annibali, M.D.
Chief Psychiatrist

Dr. Joseph Annibali graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Senatorial Scholar, and from which he received an Honors award for studies in Biological Chemistry. He attended medical school at The Pennsylvania State University, graduating in 1982. During medical school, he conducted research on calcium channel medications, presented this research nationally, and published several scientific papers on this work. While completing his residency in psychiatry, also at The Pennsylvania State University, Dr. Annibali was named a Rock Sleyster Scholar in Psychiatry by the American Medical Association. He was also named a John Frederick Steinman Fellow during his residency training. During this time, Dr. Annibali published work on Tourette’s syndrome. Dr. Annibali has been Board Certified in both general and geriatric psychiatry.

Dr. Annibali also completed psychoanalytic training at the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute, where he was president of the Candidate’s Organization. He is currently on the faculty of the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute and on the faculty of the Modern Perspectives in Psychotherapy Training Program, where he was recognized as teacher of the year. Dr. Annibali has taught a number of courses, including a neuroscience course for psychotherapists and professional writing seminars for mental health clinicians. He has also served as Chairman of the Scientific Program Committee of the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis. In addition, he served as a supervisor in the George Washington University Doctoral Psychology program. Dr. Annibali is currently collaborating in research with George Mason University, where he is a faculty member in graduate programs in the Department of Molecular Neuroscience and in the School of Systems Biology.

Dr. Annibali has particular interests in ADD, developmental difficulties, the integration of psychotherapy and neuroscience, Lyme Disease, and in complementary and alternative treatment approaches. He has written a number of book reviews and a few years ago he did newspaper and radio interviews in which he offered his perspective on the ending of the HBO television program The Sopranos. In his free time, Dr. Annibali enjoys playing the guitar, learning French, and traveling.


Rizwan A. Malik, M.D.
Psychiatrist

Dr. Rizwan Malik is a Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist who has been in clinical practice for over 7 years. Dr. Malik completed his Psychiatry Residency Training at St. Elizabeths Hospital, Washington, D.C. in 1999. After completing his training in Adult Psychiatry, Dr. Malik decided to pursue a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He was elected as a fellow in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Schneider Children’s Hospital, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, NY in affiliation with Albert Einstein College of Medicine. The fellowship program at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, NY is considered one of the largest and best Child Psychiatry fellowship programs in the country. During his fellowship, Dr. Malik gained vast experience in a variety of childhood mental illnesses such as ADHD, Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders and Pervasive Developmental Disorders. After completing his fellowship in Child Psychiatry in 2001, Dr. Malik decided to return to Washington, D.C. and became an attending Psychiatrist with the D.C. Department of Mental Health, St. Elizabeths Hospital.

During his work with the D.C. Department of Mental Health, Dr. Malik worked with very challenging patients and gained substantial experience in various Psychiatric illnesses such as Schizophrenia, Mood Disorders, Substance Abuse and Anxiety Disorders. He also gained experience working with forensic patients.

In 2003, Dr. Malik became the Medical Director at St. Elizabeths Hospital, Washington, D.C. He supervised and worked with various clinical disciplines within the hospital in conjunction with the D.C. Department of Mental Health. During his directorship, Dr. Malik continued to be actively involved in the clinical care of the mentally ill. Dr. Malik was given special award by the Doctors Council of Washington, D.C. for his achievements in a leadership role within the District of Columbia.

Since 2005, Dr. Malik has been involved in working with children and adults in his affiliation with D.C. Department of Mental Health and other hospitals in the city. He is a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry, Residency Training Program at St. Elizabeths Hospital, Washington, D.C. and has been actively involved in teaching and supervision of residents and medical students. He was awarded 2007 Alumni of the Year.

Dr. Malik is currently a consulting/ staff Psychiatrist at the Washington Hospital Center, Washington D.C., Sibley Memorial Hospital, Washington, D.C., Psychological Assessment Solutions, Washington, D.C. and DC Health Care, Inc. Washington, D.C.

Dr. Malik also has his own private practice in Child and Adult Psychiatry in Tysons Corner, Virginia. He has vast clinical experience in treating children and adolescents with ADHD, Mood Disorders, Substance Abuse and Pervasive Developmental Disorders and has particular interest in brain imaging, psychopharmacology and supportive psychotherapy.

Dr. Malik enjoys classical music and playing table tennis. He has a keen interest in digital photography, interior home decor, track car racing, and loves cooking spicy Indian curries.


Elizabeth A. Stuller, M.D.
Psychiatrist

Dr Stuller earned her B.A in Psychology from Louisiana State University in 1984. She earned her M.D. from Ross University School of Medicine in 2000 and completed her residency training in Psychiatry at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA where she served as a Chief Resident and was voted by faculty the John R. Benson Award “For Outstanding Teaching Skills during Residency Training”. She completed her Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore MD in 2007. She was ABPN Board Certified in Psychiatry in May of 2007 and ABPN Board Certified in Addiction Psychiatry in May of 2008.

Dr Stuller has experience in treating adults, adolescents, and geriatric populations in all aspects of psychiatry and addiction medicine. In addition to working at the Amen Clinic, Dr Stuller is principal owner and CEO of Stuller Resettings, LLC, where she works in Baltimore City with EHP Behavioral Services treating Dual Diagnosis patients at the Union Memorial Hospital and White Marsh Locations. She additionally teaches medical residents at Union Memorial Hospital, and volunteers with the City of Baltimore Staying Alive Program on “the block” in inner city Baltimore and also serves on the State of Maryland Physicians Health Committee overseeing case management of impaired physicians. She is the former Chief of Psychiatry at Baltimore Behavioral Health where she co-directed the Ambulatory Detoxification Unit, and the Partial and Intensive Outpatient Programs. She has additionally worked at the Veterans Hospital in Baltimore MD, and the Kolmac Clinic in Columbia, MD with experience in ambulatory outpatient Methadone and Suboxone Detoxification and Maintenance Programs respectively. She has additional training in Pain Management, Eating Disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Group Psychotherapy.

Dr Stuller is a member of numerous professional societies including the American Psychiatric Association (APA), The American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP), and the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM).Dr Stuller is a recognized speaker for several pharmaceutical companies and NeuroScience who are recognized leaders in neurotransmitter testing and nutritional solutions.

Dr Stuller’s professional interest includes applications of neuro imaging in psychiatry, addiction and pain medicine. Dr Stuller is a National Registry Certified EMT – Paramedic with Meritous Recognition, a PADI Certified Divemaster, Private Pilot, and avid golfer. She has traveled extensively and loves to cook gumbo and crawfish dishes indigenous to her hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana while cheering on her LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints National and Super Bowl Champions!


Robert M. Licata, M.D.
Psychiatrist

Dr. Robert M. Licata graduated with honors in psychiatry in 1971 from Georgetown University School of Medicine, where he did his psychiatric residency and was Chief Resident. After his residency, Dr. Licata taught medical students, psychology interns, and psychiatric residents, and supervised the psychiatric consultation service, at Bethesda Naval Hospital. He is board certified in general psychiatry.

A sought-after and esteemed teacher, Dr. Licata was a psychiatric consultant to the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board for 24 years, where he presented many educational programs for mental health professionals. He was appointed as a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University, and served as a senior faculty member between 1994 and 2004 in the Georgetown University Advanced Studies Program in Psychiatry and Psychoanalysis. There he taught courses on Gender, Intimacy, Attachment, and Trauma. He has also taught in the Neuroscience division of the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis in the Modern Perspectives on Psychotherapy training program.

In addition to his work at Amen Clinics, since 1977 Dr. Licata has had private practice in McLean, Virginia. Beyond his interests in nutritional supplements and integrative medicine, Dr. Licata is especially interested in the healing power of developing and telling our individual stories, and how these are influenced by our relationships. Known for his professional and nonjudgmental demeanor, Dr. Licata is an expert in assisting families to cope with dementia in a loved one. An avid boater and fisherman, during summer weekends he can be found on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay.


Lilly Somner, D.O.
Psychiatrist

Dr. Lilly Somner completed her psychiatry residency training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Cherry Hill, New Jersey where she was chief resident. She became board certified in general adult psychiatry in October 1999 and was re-certified in 2009. Dr. Somner completed psychodynamic psychotherapy training at the Philadelphia Psychoanalytic Institute and Society in June 1999. She has maintained a private practice in general adult, affect-oriented psychotherapy with special attention to the mind-body connection since 1999.

She completed a fellowship in anti-aging, regenerative and functional medicine in December 2008 and became board certified in May 2009.

Dr. Somner has maintained a private practice in osteopathic medicine since 1991. She specializes in the sophisticated field of cranial osteopathy and utilizes osteopathic manual medicine for pain management. Dr. Somner is fellowship trained in osteopathic principles and practice and is certified in cranial osteopathy by the Cranial Academy. She is a contributing author to a textbook on osteopathic principles and practice and has had several articles published on the topic.

Dr. Somner completed training in medical acupuncture through the UCLA School of medicine in 1994. She uses her acupuncture training in conjunction with the osteopathic manual medicine to treat acute and chronic pain issues. In her work at Amen Clinics and in her private practice, she attempts to limit her use of psychiatric medication, preferring instead to use non-invasive approaches, natural remedies, lifestyle changes, and nutritional adjustments. Dr. Somner has a practice of osteopathy, holistic psychiatry and pain management in McLean, VA, in addition to her work with Amen Clinics.

In her free time she likes to read funny novels, do Sudoku puzzles, listen to music, dance, and spend time with friends.


Wendy Aurentz, CNMT, ARRT(N)
Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Wendy has been a nuclear medicine technologist for almost 20 years. She graduated magna cum laude from Virginia Wesleyan College with a BA in Biology and received her nuclear medicine certificate from the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center. In her free time, she enjoys boating with her family, gardening, and watching her children compete in gymnastics meets.

Teresa Micheli, MA
Neurofeedback Practitioner/Medical Historian

Teresa Micheli
Inspired by her own experiences as a parent, volunteer and public education employee, Teresa pursued a career in psychology with interest in how individuals can be shaped by genetic background as well as environmental circumstances and experiences. Graduating with honors, Teresa earned her BS in Psychology from George Mason University while conducting research as a volunteer in the biopsychology lab. Soon after, Teresa earned her MA in biopsychology, focusing her research on mineral supplementation and the role of stress in the development of psychiatric disorders. Her research has been presented at such conferences as the Society for Neuroscience, the Association of Psychological Science and the Geological Society of America, and published. While at George Mason, Teresa received five awards including Outstanding Senior Award and Outstanding DBS Master’s student. She obtained two grants to fund her thesis project entitled: Stress induced hippocampal deficits associated with zinc supplementation. In addition, Teresa holds two publications highlighting her expertise in behavioral testing. She is currently pursuing BCIA certification. In her spare time, Teresa enjoys reading, kayaking, hiking, tennis, cooking, and most importantly, spending time with family and friends.

Rachel Fox
Chief Historian/Quality Control Manager

Rachel is currently pursuing a double major in Biology and Psychology and hopes to get her Ph.D. at George Mason University in Biopsychology. She worked as a research assistant surveying behavioral aspects of Rafinesquii Bat roosts in Southeastern Virginia. She also volunteered at the Virginia Living Museum in order to get a better understanding of the behavior of Virginia’s wild animals. Rachel was also a leading member of the Biology Club and founding member of Zeta Tau Alpha at Christopher Newport University. She is interested in the biological concepts regarding human behavior in a clinical psychologist setting. She is gladly owned by her two dogs, Krypto and Allie.

Stephanie Pelc
Medical Historian
Stephanie graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She is currently a graduate student at George Mason earning her Master of Arts in Psychology studying Human Factors and Applied Cognition. Stephanie enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with friends and family.

Jessica Massey
Patient Care Coordinator/Medical Historian
Jessica is a recent graduate from George Mason University where she made the Dean’s list two years in a row. Graduating with a B.A. in Psychology, Jessica has always had a passion for this field and helping others. She is now currently pursuing her passion as a patient care coordinator for Amen Clinics. In a few years, she plans to enhance her education in psychology by attending graduate school and receiving her Masters degree. Due to living overseas for the majority of her life, Jessica enjoys traveling among other hobbies including spending time with friends and family, watching movies, listening to music, and drawing.

Leighanne graduated from George Mason University in 2010 with a B.A. in psychology. While attending George Mason, she was on the Dean's list several times and was also a member of Psi Chi. In order to continue her education and support her lifelong passion of psychology, she plans to go back to school in a few years to earn her master's degree. When Leighanne isn't working, she enjoys reading, outdoor activities, and hanging out with her friends and family.

Office Manager
Kathy graduated from George Mason University with a B.S. in Psychology and a minor in Management. She graduated with honors and was selected as the “Best Researcher” for her thesis project entitled “False Recall and Recognition of Emotional Words in Stroke Patients with Left or Right Hemisphere Damage” and received third place in the 2000 Regional Science fair in Engineering. Kathy was on the Dean’s List and a member of Psi Chi. In June 2011, she became a Certified Medical Office Manager. She has been with the Amen Clinic DC since January 2006. When Kathy is not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, outdoor activities, playing card games, reading and visiting her extended family.

Christina McCormick
Patient Care Coordinator

Christina graduated in 2006 from Virginia Tech (GO HOKIES) with a B.S. in Psychology. While pursuing her degree at Virginia Tech, Christina was very active as a research assistant in the Psychology department. She was also an active member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. In the future, Christina plans to study Forensic Psychology or Social Work. For now, she is very happy just coming home and playing with her beautiful boxer puppy, Gizmo.

Kristin Karlovich

Kristin graduated from George Mason University in 2010 with a B.S in Psychology and a Minor in Social Work. Kristin hopes to continue her experience and education in the field of psychology and has a particular interest in working with children and adolescents in the future. Kristin loves to travel and spent a summer during her undergrad education in London interning at the University of Westminster conducting research for their psychology department on a variety of topics. She was a student athlete at GMU and played for the Women’s Club Soccer team and remains involved with the club by volunteering as their coach.

Caitlin graduated from George Mason University in 2009 with a B.S. psychology. Her main focus was physiological psychology and neuroscience. She plans to continue her education to lead her into a career that involves brain imaging and research. Caitlin enjoys travelling, reading neuroscience articles and spending time with friends and family.

Maria graduated from the University of New Mexico in May 2010 with a B.S. in Psychology, magna cum laude honors, and a double minor in Anthropology and Criminology. She played on the University of New Mexico women’s tennis team for four years (Go Lobos!), and tennis has always been a huge part of her life. Maria was on the Dean’s list four years in a row as well as a member of Psi Chi. In a few years she plans to go back to school to get a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. Maria enjoys traveling, sports, listening to music, and spending time with friends and family.

Keleigh recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northern Virginia Community College where she earned her Associates degree in Psychology. She is currently attending George Mason University and is pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a possible minor in Criminology. After earning her Bachelor’s degree, Keleigh plans to attend Graduate school and eventually earn her Ph.D in Psychology. Keleigh hopes to one day become a criminal psychiatrist or profiler. In her free time, Keleigh enjoys spending time with her family and friends, shopping, watching TV and movies, and catching up on her sleep.
