Joseph A. Annibali, M.D.

Chief Psychiatrist

Dr. Joseph Annibali graduated magna cum laude in 1978 from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Senatorial Scholar, and from which he received an Honors award for studies in Biological Chemistry. He attended medical school at The Pennsylvania State University, graduating in 1982. During medical school, he conducted research on calcium channel medications, presented this research nationally, and published several scientific papers on this work. While completing his residency in psychiatry, also at The Pennsylvania State University, Dr. Annibali was named a Rock Sleyster Scholar in Psychiatry by the American Medical Association. He was also named a John Frederick Steinman Fellow during his residency training. During this time, Dr. Annibali published work on Tourette’s syndrome. Dr. Annibali has been Board Certified in both general and geriatric psychiatry.

Dr. Annibali also completed psychoanalytic training at the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute, where he was president of the Candidate’s Organization. He is currently on the faculty of the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute and on the faculty of the Modern Perspectives in Psychotherapy Training Program, where he was recognized as teacher of the year. Dr. Annibali has taught a number of courses, including a neuroscience course for psychotherapists and professional writing seminars for mental health clinicians. He has also served as Chairman of the Scientific Program Committee of the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis. In addition, he served as a supervisor in the George Washington University Doctoral Psychology program.

Dr. Annibali has broad experience in all areas of modern psychiatry. He has had a longtime private practice in McLean, Virginia. Dr. Annibali has particular interests in ADD, developmental difficulties, and in the integration of psychotherapy and psychopharmacology. He has written a number of book reviews and recently did newspaper and radio interviews in which he offered his perspective on the ending of the HBO television program The Sopranos. In his free time, Dr. Annibali enjoys playing the guitar, learning French, and traveling.


Rizwan A. Malik, M.D.

Psychiatrist

Dr. Rizwan Malik is a Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist who has been in clinical practice for over 7 years. Dr. Malik completed his Psychiatry Residency Training at St. Elizabeths Hospital, Washington, D.C. in 1999. After completing his training in Adult Psychiatry, Dr. Malik decided to pursue a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He was elected as a fellow in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Schneider Children’s Hospital, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, NY in affiliation with Albert Einstein College of Medicine. The fellowship program at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, NY is considered one of the largest and best Child Psychiatry fellowship programs in the country. During his fellowship, Dr. Malik gained vast experience in a variety of childhood mental illnesses such as ADHD, Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders and Pervasive Developmental Disorders. After completing his fellowship in Child Psychiatry in 2001, Dr. Malik decided to return to Washington, D.C. and became an attending Psychiatrist with the D.C. Department of Mental Health, St. Elizabeths Hospital.

During his work with the D.C. Department of Mental Health, Dr. Malik worked with very challenging patients and gained substantial experience in various Psychiatric illnesses such as Schizophrenia, Mood Disorders, Substance Abuse and Anxiety Disorders. He also gained experience working with forensic patients.

In 2003, Dr. Malik became the Medical Director at St. Elizabeths Hospital, Washington, D.C. He supervised and worked with various clinical disciplines within the hospital in conjunction with the D.C. Department of Mental Health. During his directorship, Dr. Malik continued to be actively involved in the clinical care of the mentally ill. Dr. Malik was given special award by the Doctors Council of Washington, D.C. for his achievements in a leadership role within the District of Columbia.

Since 2005, Dr. Malik has been involved in working with children and adults in his affiliation with D.C. Department of Mental Health and other hospitals in the city. He is a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry, Residency Training Program at St. Elizabeths Hospital, Washington, D.C. and has been actively involved in teaching and supervision of residents and medical students. He was awarded 2007 Alumni of the Year.

Dr. Malik is currently a consulting/ staff Psychiatrist at the Washington Hospital Center, Washington D.C., Sibley Memorial Hospital, Washington, D.C., Psychological Assessment Solutions, Washington, D.C. and DC Health Care, Inc. Washington, D.C.

Dr. Malik also has his own private practice in Child and Adult Psychiatry in Tysons Corner, Virginia. He has vast clinical experience in treating children and adolescents with ADHD, Mood Disorders, Substance Abuse and Pervasive Developmental Disorders and has particular interest in brain imaging, psychopharmacology and supportive psychotherapy.

Dr. Malik enjoys classical music and playing table tennis. He has a keen interest in digital photography, interior home decor, track car racing, and loves cooking spicy Indian curries.


Elizabeth A. Stuller, M.D.

Psychiatrist

Dr. Stuller received her B.A. in Psychology from Louisiana State University in 1984. She earned her M.D. from Ross University School of Medicine in 2000 and completed her residency training in Psychiatry at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA where she served as a Chief Resident and was voted by faculty the John R. Benson Award “For Outstanding Teaching Skills during Residency Training.” She completed her Fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry at University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore, MD in 2007. She was ABPN Board Certified in Psychiatry in May of 2007 and ABPN Board Certified in Addiction Psychiatry in May of 2008.

Dr. Stuller has experience in treating adults, adolescents, and geriatric populations in all aspects of psychiatry and addiction medicine. She is currently the Chief of Psychiatry at Baltimore Behavioral Health in Baltimore, MD where she co-directs the Ambulatory Detoxification Unit and the Partial and Intensive Outpatient Programs. She additionally works at the Veterans Hospital in Baltimore MD with experience in Methadone and Suboxone Detoxification and Maintenance programs, Pain Management, Dual Diagnosis treatment, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Veteran outpatient individual and group psychotherapy.

Dr. Stuller is a member of numerous professional societies including the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, American Society of Addiction Medicine, The American Medical Association, and the American Academy of Pain Medicine.

Dr Stuller’s professional interest include applications of neuroimaging in psychiatry, addiction and pain medicine. Dr. Stuller is a National Registry Certified EMT Paramedic with Meritous recognition, a PADI Divermaster, private pilot, and avid golfer. She has traveled extensively and loves to cook gumbo and crawfish dishes indigenous to her hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana.


Robert M. Licata, M.D.

Psychiatrist

Dr. Robert M. Licata graduated with honors in psychiatry from Georgetown University’s School of Medicine in 1971. He also did his psychiatric residency at Georgetown, where he was Chief Resident. After his residency, Dr. Licata spent two years at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland, teaching medical students, psychology interns, and psychiatric residents, and supervising the psychiatric consultation service. He is board certified in general and geriatric psychiatry, and is a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University.

Dr. Licata has been a psychiatric consultant to the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board for the past 24 years. There he has evaluated and treated older adults, in addition to conducting many educational activities for Fairfax County’s mental health professionals. Dr. Licata was an executive committee and faculty member in Georgetown University Medical Center’s Advanced Studies Program in Psychiatry and Psychoanalysis between 1994 and 2004, where he taught courses on Gender, Intimacy, Attachment, and Trauma.

Since 1977, Dr. Licata has maintained a private practice in general adult psychiatry in McLean, Virginia. He has broad experience in psychiatric assessment, psychotherapy, and psychopharmacology. He is especially interested in helping his patients integrate and manage their emotional and interpersonal experiences.


Lilly Somner, D.O.

Psychiatrist

Dr. Lilly Somner completed her psychiatry residency training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Cherry Hill, New Jersey where she was chief resident. She became board certified in general adult psychiatry in October 1999 and was re-certified in 2009. Dr. Somner completed psychodynamic psychotherapy training at the Philadelphia Psychoanalytic Institute and Society in June 1999. She has maintained a private practice in general adult, affect-oriented psychotherapy with special attention to the mind-body connection since 1999.

She completed a fellowship in anti-aging, regenerative and functional medicine in December 2008 and became board certified in May 2009.

Dr. Somner has maintained a private practice in osteopathic medicine since 1991. She specializes in the sophisticated field of cranial osteopathy and utilizes osteopathic manual medicine for pain management. Dr. Somner is fellowship trained in osteopathic principles and practice and is certified in cranial osteopathy by the Cranial Academy. She is a contributing author to a textbook on osteopathic principles and practice and has had several articles published on the topic.

Dr. Somner completed training in medical acupuncture through the UCLA School of medicine in 1994. She uses her acupuncture training in conjunction with the osteopathic manual medicine to treat acute and chronic pain issues. In her work at Amen Clinics and in her private practice, she attempts to limit her use of psychiatric medication, preferring instead to use non-invasive approaches, natural remedies, lifestyle changes, and nutritional adjustments. Dr. Somner has a practice of osteopathy, holistic psychiatry and pain management in McLean, VA, in addition to her work with Amen Clinics.

In her free time she likes to read funny novels, do Sudoku puzzles, listen to music, dance, and spend time with friends.

Wendy Aurentz, CNMT, ARRT(N)

Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Wendy has been a nuclear medicine technologist for almost 20 years. She graduated magna cum laude from Virginia Wesleyan College with a BA in Biology and received her nuclear medicine certificate from the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center. In her free time, she enjoys boating with her family, gardening, and watching her children compete in gymnastics meets.

Christina McCormick

Patient Care Coordinator

Christina graduated in 2006 from Virginia Tech (GO HOKIES) with a B.S. in Psychology. While pursuing her degree at Virginia Tech, Christina was very active as a research assistant in the Psychology department. She was also an active member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. In the future, Christina plans to study Forensic Psychology or Social Work. For now, she is very happy just coming home and playing with her beautiful boxer puppy, Gizmo.

Rachel Fox

Historian

Rachel is currently pursuing a double major in Biology and Psychology and hopes to get her Ph.D. at George Mason University in Biopsychology. She worked as a research assistant surveying behavioral aspects of Rafinesquii Bat roosts in Southeastern Virginia. She also volunteered at the Virginia Living Museum in order to get a better understanding of the behavior of Virginia’s wild animals. Rachel was also a leading member of the Biology Club and founding member of Zeta Tau Alpha at Christopher Newport University. She is interested in the biological concepts regarding human behavior in a clinical psychologist setting. She is gladly owned by her two dogs, Krypto and Allie.

Kristina Lawrence

Historian

Kristina earned her Bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Virginia, where she was on the Dean’s List. At the University, she worked as a research assistant for the Implicit Social Cognition lab, where she was recognized as an indispensable aid to the psychology department. Her research focused on the psychology of prejudice and intergroup relations from the perspective of diverse social groups. Kristina also worked for four years as a film technician for the UVA football program, where she gained a unique perspective on sports-related head trauma. Within the Charlottesville community, she volunteered at the Kluge Children’s Rehabilitation Center at UVA Hospital and the palliative care unit at Martha Jefferson Hospital.

Kristina is currently pursuing a master’s degree in biology, with a concentration in microbiology and infectious disease, but she plans to attend medical school. She enjoys traveling, volunteering, reading, and spending time with her family.


Kathy Ehlinger

Office Manager

Kathy graduated from George Mason University with a B.S. in Psychology and a minor in Management. She graduated with honors and was selected as the “Best Researcher” for her thesis project entitled “False Recall and Recognition of Emotional Words in Stroke Patients with Left or Right Hemisphere Damage” and received third place in the 2000 Regional Science fair in Engineering. Kathy was on the Dean’s List and a member of Psi Chi. She has been employed with the Amen Clinic DC since January 2006.

Nic Sanchez, Amen Clinic DC, Reston, VA

Patient & Provider Relations Coordinator

Nic earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from George Mason University in December of 2008, where he was on the Dean’s List. He also has an English minor with a concentration in Folklore and Mythology. He began his career in customer service and relations through working at a local coffee chain. Having grown up in the DC area, he is very well versed in the local accommodations and interests. His hobbies include karaoke, movies, music, and bringing a smile to everyone’s face.
