The clinical and other scientific research on nutrients and herbal dietary supplements are making rapid progress and now involves the best research institutions and most talented researchers around the world. The huge body of data on brain health confirms that nutraceuticals are safe to take and measurably beneficial for the brain. When used along with lifestyle and dietary improvements, exercise, and stress reduction techniques they constitute a regimen superior to the current drug-centered paradigm. Dr. Parris M. Kidd (PhD in cell biology, Univ. of Calif. Berkeley), will discuss his collaboration with Amen Clinics in developing and applying nutraceuticals to improve diverse features of brain health and promote overall wellbeing. Dr. Kidd will draw on his more than 3 decades of experience to review specific formulations and their targeted applications for memory, mood, and overall life quality.
A native of Jamaica, Dr. Kidd earned his PhD in cell biology and zoology from the University of California at Berkeley. While an NIH-funded research investigator at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center, he developed a compelling interest in “alternative” medicine and began a collaboration with another Berkeley PhD (Dr. Stephen Levine) that resulted in the book Antioxidant Adaptation—Its Role in Free Radical Pathology. This scientific reference text established Dr. Kidd as a leading authority in nutritionally oriented medicine. In 1994 Dr. Kidd reoriented his focus to brain nutrients. He introduced North America to the science behind the foremost brain nutrient PS (PhosphatidylSerine), and helped establish PS on other continents. He also popularized GPC (Glycero-Phospho-Choline), omega-3s, and numerous other brain nutraceuticals. His brain formulas have earned him awards from the dietary supplement industry. He has done hundreds of industry seminars, trainings, workshops, radio, blogs, and video appearances. In 2014 Dr. Kidd became Chief Science Officer and Director of Quality for BrainMD Health, the nutraceutical affiliate of Amen Clinics, Inc. He works closely with Dr. Daniel Amen to develop clinically validated nutraceutical products for applications to memory, mood, behavior and healthy aging.
