Dr. Kalyanapu began her pursuit of a medical career at age 16 when she was accepted into an Accelerated Six-Year Medical Program. After completing her undergraduate studies at Pennsylvania State University, she attended Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA, on a military scholarship. She then entered active duty service in the U.S. Army and completed her general adult psychiatry residency and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI. She gained extensive experience working with veterans, active duty service members from all branches, and military family members. Dr. Kalyanapu is a veteran herself, having served as leader of a combat stress control unit in Baghdad in 2004 as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Dr. Kalyanapu enjoys using diet, exercise, and nutritional supplements to address psychiatric conditions. She particularly enjoys working with patients struggling with autism spectrum disorders, developmental delays, obsessive compulsive disorders, and posttraumatic stress disorder. She also enjoys complex cases which defy traditional classification and may have been refractory to prior treatments. In her spare time, Dr. Kalyanapu enjoys sketching, knitting, working with animals, and learning about ancient religions.
