Dr. Brian Bello is a child/adolescent and adult psychiatrist who earned his medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed his general psychiatry residency and his child & adolescent psychiatry fellowship at LAC+USC Medical Center. Since then, he has worked in both county and private practice settings.
Dr. Bello has a particular interest in early childhood trauma and the many ways that complex interpersonal trauma manifests in both children and adults. His framework for treating clients is always rooted in understanding how their personal experiences and present environment are contributing to their present problems. He views his role in patients’ journeys to mental wellness as more of a partner and a coach. The goal is to help people recognize their strength and autonomy, then to explore the problem and develop the solution together. He does this by sharing the information he has learned through years of experience to offer reasonable and ethical options, then communicate the pros and cons of different decisions. With a thorough clinical history and use of SPECT, we can narrow down treatment options, but Dr. Bello believes ultimately, people should get to make their own decisions about what role diet, exercise, supplements, therapy, spirituality, and medication will have in their treatment.
Related to his philosophy, Dr. Bello is well-versed in psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and couples therapy, as well as working with parents on behavioral modification techniques. He has a couple long term therapy patients that he has been seeing for a few years, but is open to taking on new clients who are looking for weekly sessions. In addition to trauma, his other areas of expertise include ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder, depression, anxiety, OCD, and autism.
In his free time, Dr. Bello enjoys playing music, biking, skateboarding, snowboarding, and playing video games. He loves getting new music recommendations from patients.
