Psychiatrist

Dr. Jamie Alexander is a psychiatrist at Amen Clinics. She earned her medical degree at Lincoln Memorial-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, TN, and completed her residency training in general psychiatry at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, TX. Prior to becoming a psychiatrist, Dr. Alexander earned a master’s degree in Chemistry and conducted thesis research on cancer drug development at Middle Tennessee State University. Here, she earned the “Excellence in Teaching” award for her work teaching chemistry to undergraduate students. Her increasing interest and experience in neurobiochemistry, along with her passion for mental health and patient empowerment through education led her to pursue a career in psychiatry.

Dr. Alexander’s expertise includes treating a variety of psychiatric and neurocognitive illnesses including PTSD, depressive disorders, anxiety, psychosis, bipolar disorder, dementia, traumatic brain injury, ADHD, addiction, and personality disorders. She utilizes motivational, psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques during patient encounters to empower patients on their journey to recovery and optimal brain health.  She has a particular interest in childhood development and treating survivors of trauma. She is an empathetic listener and views the patient-doctor relationship as a partnership in which the patient’s goals are continuously considered.

Dr. Alexander currently lives in Alaska with her husband, two children, two cats, and a German shepherd.  In her free time, she enjoys embarking on outdoor adventures with her family, reading books, and anything to do with animals.
