
During our lives we all come across opportunities to seek insightful and informative feedback that may better shape our chosen course of direction. Dr. Napatia Gettings understands that we are all a product of our collective experiences, biological predispositions, and nurturing process.
Dr. Gettings was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. She was reared in a home plagued with domestic violence and child abuse. Her passion for holistic health and wellness is rooted in her own survival of past trauma. During her pursuit of higher education, she attended Whitney Young High School, Dartmouth College, and in 2003 earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences from The University of Chicago. She then furthered her education and obtained her Doctorate of Medicine from The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in 2007.
During her medical school education, Dr. Gettings made the decision to pursue professional training in the field of psychiatry with the goal of helping others on their journey to mental wellness. Following her adult psychiatry training she pursued a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of Illinois Institute of Juvenile Research, which she completed in 2012. Dr. Gettings’ mission as a medical doctor specializing in psychiatry is to bring mental health awareness to the mainstream and dismantle the misconceptions and stigma associated with it. Through preventative medicine and integrated wellness education, she empowers individuals to make the conscious decision to live their healthiest life. Dr. Gettings’ platform includes domestic violence advocacy, mind-body medicine, and disease prevention.
Dr. Gettings currently holds double board certifications in both adult and child psychiatry. She is also licensed to practice medicine in Illinois, Florida, and California. Her clinical work has been featured in many publications and media outlets including Ebony Magazine. In addition to her passion for teaching, speaking, writing, and practicing medicine, she thoroughly enjoys motherhood. Dr. Gettings is the mother of four. She is happily married into a blended family of six children. Her appreciation for work-life balance affords her quality time with her family when she is not serving others.
