Dr. Tonya Sweezer has been interested in medicine from a young age, but her studies in Biochemistry at Seattle University deepened her curiosity about the “why” behind disease and inspired her to pursue a medical approach focused on addressing root causes. She went on to earn her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University. As a Naturopathic Physician she saw firsthand the transformative power of addressing underlying causes of illness rather than simply treating symptoms. After several years in practice, Dr. Sweezer expanded her training by earning her Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from University of North Texas Health Science Center and completing her Family Medicine residency at Methodist Charlton Medical Center, where she helped develop the program’s first integrative medicine track. She is also a Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner and is Board Certified in Obesity Medicine.
With over 20 years of experience in medicine, combining evidence-based conventional, functional, and naturopathic modalities, Dr. Sweezer takes a truly integrative approach to care that focuses on restoring overall wellness. She is passionate about helping patients understand the connection between brain health and physical and emotional well being, empowering them to make meaningful, lasting changes to improve quality of life.
Dr. Sweezer has particular expertise in gut health, hormone balance, nutrient optimization, autoimmune conditions, chronic infections, and environmental contributors to illness, including mold and toxin-related concerns. She believes that addressing inflammation, nutrition, sleep, stress, and metabolic health plays a critical role in supporting cognitive function, mood, energy, and long-term vitality. Through compassionate, personalized care, she partners with patients to identify the underlying drivers of illness rather than simply managing symptoms.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Sweezer enjoys yoga, travel, and spending time with her family. She also enjoys developing educational courses and teaching individuals and groups how to live healthier, more balanced lives through the principles of functional medicine and brain health optimization.
