A Meeting with Tony Robbins
Invisible Forces Are The Key to Success
“Only he who can see the invisible can do the impossible.”
-Frank L. Gaines
How much control do you really have over your life? This might be one of the most important questions you will ever ask yourself. We’re all familiar with gravity, magnetism, radioactivity, and electricity. These are all invisible forces they have a huge impact on our everyday life, but these are forces outside of us. There are invisible forces inside of us that have an even larger impact on our lives. These forces control our behavior. Whether it’s in business or in our personal lives, these forces directly affect our success and failure in everything we do. From ideas to beliefs, love, values, decisions, fear, and emotions, it’s all controlled consciously and subconsciously by the brain. It’s our brain that makes decisions which ultimately leads to action. In a profound way, our brain takes the invisible and makes it visible. As you know, it’s been my life mission to help people transform their lives through brain health. That’s why I feel like a kindred spirit to Tony Robbins. He’s also dedicated his life to helping people discover their true potential with his practical psychology methods. I love that we share so many common values. I’ve read his book, been to his seminar, and have followed his career through the years. When my wife was going through a tough time, Tony’s work actually made a huge difference in elevating her spirit. And as the saying goes, “Happy wife, happy life.” So, that made me an even bigger fan. Recently, I had the honor and privilege to sit down and meet with Mr. Tony Robbins. He flew into our Amen Clinics office in Costa Mesa, California. If you’re not familiar, Tony is an author, entrepreneur, philanthropist and life coach. He’s known for his infomercials, seminars, and self-help books including Unlimited Power and Awaken the Giant Within. If you can imagine Tony is 6 feet 7 inches tall. He towered over me. But the biggest part of him was his heart. I could feel his passion and drive to help people. Tony is the real thing. He’s authentic, sincere, and masterful at what he does. Tony came to see us for two reasons. As Tony has shared before with his fans, he’s been dealing with mercury poisoning. Mercury Poisoning can cause mental changes including mood swings and memory loss. He’s also an A-type personality who’s committed to maximizing and optimizing his performance. In true Tony fashion, he said to me, “I’m a peak performance guy. I don’t want to come (to Amen Clinics) just because it’s a problem; I want to come because I want to take things to the next level.” Tony is masterful at helping people create breakthroughs by teaching strategies for psychological and emotional fitness. As our discussion progressed, we talked about how the physical health of our brain directly affects our moods, mind states, our capacity for decision making and action. Tony said, “I think that when people start to realize there are other things outside the psychological, that there are physical aspects (to the brain). I think you’ve given me a really wonderful gift.” When Tony told me that he was a fan of my work, I was not only flattered, I was elated. He said, “I’ve watched over the years how people attacked you in the beginning. When you’re the pioneer you get all the arrows, and now I see everybody quoting you, which just makes me so happy. I’ve always wanted to come see you.” I truly appreciate those kind words because as one of the first doctors to pioneer brain SPECT imaging to diagnose and treat patients with mental issues, I’ve had to deal with a lot of criticism. Despite what most people think, being first isn’t always a good thing. Even as research piles up showing that SPECT can provide invaluable information in a wide variety of cases, traditional psychiatry has been resistant to using it in clinical practice. Most psychiatrists still ignore the technology and even ridicule it. As a result, psychiatry remains the only medical specialty that rarely looks at the organ it treats. How do you get where you’re going without knowing your exact starting point? In the same breathe, how do you even begin to heal the brain without looking at? How do you know what’s going on, unless you look? As Tony says, “What I love about you is getting down to what the real reality is.” And that’s exactly what brain imaging does. It gets down to reality. It makes the invisible, visible. Because when your brain works right, you work right. The invisible forces, or in other words, your brain health, is foundational to your success in everything you do – from work, relationships, school, happiness, and fulfillment. With all the advances in neuroscience and imaging technology available, you can boost your brain health and thrive at every point in life. Brain health is not just about improving memory, focus, and brain energy. It’s about living the best life you can.
