Dr. Peter Sangra joined Amen Clinics in September 2024, bringing extensive experience in child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry, as well as a strong background in leadership, education, and community service.
Prior to joining Amen Clinics, Dr. Sangra practiced at Peak Behavioral Health in New Mexico, where he served as Outpatient Medical Director and played a key role in developing a thriving Partial Hospitalization Program that expanded access to adolescent mental health services throughout the state. He also served as Medical Director for an adult psychiatric hospital, substance abuse treatment unit, and community Crisis Triage Center.
Dr. Sangra is deeply committed to education and mentorship. In recognition of his dedication to training future physicians, he received the Outstanding Preceptor of the Year Award for mentoring and teaching medical students.
Before pursuing medicine, Dr. Sangra earned a degree in Occupational Therapy and practiced as an Occupational Therapist in Canada for seven years, working extensively with neurological rehabilitation and traumatic brain injuries. Combined with nearly a decade of experience in psychiatry, this diverse clinical background has shaped his passion for understanding brain function and dysfunction through a neurobiological lens.
At Amen Clinics, Dr. Sangra is especially passionate about brain health, the clinical application of SPECT imaging, and developing personalized treatment approaches that help patients better understand the underlying causes of emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and memory-related symptoms.
Faith, family, and service are central to Dr. Sangra’s life and approach to patient care. His Christian faith has deeply influenced his commitment to compassion, hope, integrity, and serving others with dignity and purpose. He has been actively involved in Christian organizations and charitable initiatives throughout both the United States and Canada, and values caring for the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.
Dr. Sangra considers his greatest accomplishments to be his faith, his marriage, and raising his two children. Outside of his professional work, he enjoys spending time with his family, participating in faith-based projects, mentoring others, and investing in the lives of his children through teaching, guidance, and meaningful connection.
