Kristie Mitchell, MD | Washington D.C., Metro Area

Adult Psychiatrist

Dr. Mitchell has been board-certified in adult psychiatry since 2005 and has earned Top Doctor Awards from Northern Virginia Magazine and The Washingtonian Magazine a total of nine times. Dr. Mitchell is also board-certified in integrative medicine and has additional training in functional medicine, psychodynamic psychotherapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and HeartMath Biofeedback. Dr. Mitchell uses these multimodal techniques, as appropriate, to successfully help patients with depression, anxiety, PTSD, TBI, OCD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, eating disorders, autism spectrum disorders, and cognitive decline.

Dr. Mitchell’s personal mind-body journey led her to the field of integrative medicine. In this innovative field, physicians combine nutrition, mind-body work, targeted supplementation, and conventional medical treatment to support the mind, body, and soul. Dr. Mitchell believes this approach is the key to help each patient find their unique path to health and well-being.

Dr. Mitchell began her medical training in a surgical field, but quickly discovered her passion for understanding her patients beyond their illness or symptoms – she was interested in their life stories. This led her to change career paths to psychiatry, and she has never looked back.

Dr. Mitchell completed her psychiatry training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and went on to serve in the United States Army for eight years. During this time, she worked with soldiers suffering from war-related injuries and trauma, and she became adept at treating post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury.

After her military service, Dr. Mitchell went on to work in busy outpatient mental health clinics, where she honed her expertise in using medications to treat complex psychiatric illnesses.
