10 steps to healthy eating for the poor

Some time ago I appeared on MSNBC’s nationally televised forum About Our Children. The show’s host Bill Cosby asked me a very intriguing question. We were talking about how important good nutrition is for optimal brain performance and physical health when Mr. Cosby asked me, “How do we teach poor people to eat right when bad food is so cheap?”

Dr. Amen,

I read this article on the Huffington Post site but decided to leave a comment here. My comment (or question as it were) is:

There is a lot of talk about the negative side effects of white flour and white sugar. White flour and sugar is cheap and tasty, hence appealing to people on a tight budget. How harmful are white products and to what extent should they be avoided?
