The Brain Warrior’s Way Podcast Tackles Pros and Cons of CBD

CBD Oil

One of the hottest—and most controversial—topics in the field of health and wellness right now is CBD. At every mental health conference, an audience member inevitably asks, “What about CBD?” The same question pops up every day on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

If you’re like most people, you may be wondering if CBD can decrease your anxiety, help your aging mother’s chronic pain, or even help your dog’s arthritis. What it can and can’t do is still being explored.

To delve into the pros and cons of CBD, Dr. Rebecca Siegel, a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist, recently joined Dr. Daniel Amen and Tana Amen on the Brain Warrior’s Way Podcast. In this 4-part series, you’ll find the answers to many questions about CBD, THC, and medical marijuana, such as:

  • Can CBD minimize chronic pain? Alleviate anxiety? Improve your sleep issues? Decrease PTSD symptoms? Can it help with other conditions?
  • What is CBD legally approved for?
  • What’s the difference between CBD and THC?
  • What’s the difference between CBD and medical marijuana?
  • Is CBD addictive?
  • Can CBD make you feel stoned?
  • Is CBD bad for your brain?
  • Is it helpful for people with mental health issues or does it make people worse?
  • What does cannabis do to the teenage brain?
  • What does the research say about CBD?

  1. Helli, I would like send in my experience with CBD I intiatly started used using CBD intermittently for inflammation until last May when I was diagnosed with Lyme disease and reactivated EBV. My first symptoms were a mild dull headache in the top corner of my right eyebrow and nose (thought a sinus infection was coming on) as I had some congestion along with the headache, went to doctor at day 5 of headache he tried to treat it as a migraine even as I told him it wasnota migraine. Sent home with naproxen script (didn’t fill it)
Next day went to ER where they too were treating me for a migraine, and put long qtip up each nostril to turn off ganglion nerve, this kept lowering my heart rate and setting off the alarm until finally someone came to see why my heart was unhappy..asked to remove qtips and don’t know if ganglion nerve was Turned back on, as sent home with more anti-inflammatory meds. Next morning woke up With right side bell palsy, went back to ER where the same doc was on staff that treated me the day before with the stops up my nostrils. He said oh wow glad you came back and I bet you have Lyme disease Bell palsy is a classic symptom. Any way with days of joint pain and sleep disturbances nothing helped until I remembered my CBD oil in the fridge and started using it right away the first night after 2 doses was the first night I slept through the night in 2 weeks, and by the 3rd full day of using my elbows and knees didn’t. hurt too much and I was still sleeping through the night, there were a couple of days I missed using my CBD and on those days I became exhausted but couldn’t get to sleep or stay asleep. So from my use I give excellent testimony to CBD for Lyme disease symptoms it also helped with cognitive symptoms I was having such as actually feeling my brain shut down during conversation (I would go to say something and I would feel a block in my brain where the thought of words just got shut down) and foggy brain feeling, I also had weird almost like spasms and a tingle in the frontal lobes during the first weeks of the Lyme. But the CBD made a huge difference. I used hempworx 750 mg with THC

  2. I listened to all of the podcast episodes on CND. Here’s my question- how do you compare the effects of CBD (and is it different from the effects of marijuana?) on the brain (SPECT ) and use of sleep Rx like Lunesta and benzodiazepines? I’d there a good, better, best (or bad, worse, worst?). Thanks. Keep up the amazing content!

  3. My son was haven’t anxiety and mild depression in college and started using CBD. It seemed to make the depression worse and did not seem to alleviate the anxiety. This of course was in conjunction with alcohol so that’s a factor but I know others for whom CBD causes drowsiness and disorientation. I use the balm and it has helped with inflammation due to Ober use and RA.

  4. My cat has a inoperable tumor on his throat. His hair was getting dull, he was sleeping a lot and barely eating. The varied good cat food I was giving him was of no use as he vomited after each meal. After giving him pet CBD (raw organic hemp oil is the best) improvement was miraculous. After the fist 2 doses he was way more alert, became more active and seem to cut many years off his life. He is 7 and began acting like a youngster again. His coat became glossy and healthy. Absolutely no more vomit! His eyes seem clearer and he just seems happier. His large tumor is receding and we are hoping for the best. So yes, CBD, (raw hemp oil with CBA, unheated) seems to heal. I am so happy with my happy cat. So I too tried raw hemp oil and my mind seemed much clearer. I felt like it was getting a jolt of spark in my nuerons. Less pain, and body felt so much more healthy, relaxed but energized at the same time. Wonderful experience!

  5. I have taken CBD yesterday and last week in capsule form. No negative side effects. My blood pressure has dropped from 150’s to the 120s but do not know if it is from the CBD, also taking Red Beetroot and it bounces around. Will keep testing. Dr Amen mentioned it bothered him and made him feel out of it. SInce he has never had marijuana (how could that be, hiding under a rock or he did not live here in the 60’s?) I suspect it was the version that also had THC. I got it for mild arthritis which bothers me when I am active like golf. The jury is still out but I have been hitting the ball better. This may be that I rediscovered my swing that has been missing for years. But it could be my body is moving better and not reacting to pain.

  7. My sister 70 yrs and was still working has had 2 TIA (last November, and January) and has moved in with me. she has been diagnosed with Dementia. 1st mild cognative, then in Feb. Middle. She has had a lot of up and down emotions and memory fog at times and confused. Seems like I have to treat her like walking on egg shells. Would she have better memory and less emotional ups and downs if she used CBD or raw hemp oil? Do you have a clinic in Hot Springs Are.?

  8. I was using it for about 9 months for sleep and anxiety. I did not notice an improvement while taking high quality CBD oil. When I told my primary care doctor, she told me to stop taking it. She said there is research out of Australia showing it could cause liver problems.
